Services
Tier 1 /Universal Supports
All students receive Character Education lessons monthly. These lesson topics are based on identified student needs, as well as Illinois Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Standards . These Classroom based lessons are aimed at assisting all students to develop appropriate growth in both social and academic domains.
Additionally, all students receive weekly PBIS lessons to support compliance with school-wide behavior expectations. These topics are based on school routines and rules in all areas of the school. Weekly lessons are also driven by our data analysis of problem behaviors and areas.
Responsive services provides up to 5 sessions with individual students to address common issues and concerns such as grieving, divorce/parental separation, bullying and peer problems, and crisis intervention to name a few. Parents, teachers, and students may refer for this support. The counselor is always available to help!
Universal screening is another important process for all students. All students are assessed by their teachers for social emotional development. Such assessments helps us to gauge the effectiveness of classroom lessons and drives the development of future interventions. Student who fall into categories denoting significant developmental delay in social emotional skills may also receive an additional intervention.
Consultation with staff members and caretakers is another service provided to all students upon request. These brief meetings, either in person or via phone may assist in supporting efforts in the home and at school. Many times, referrals to community resources are provided to round off supportive measures.
Tier 2
Some students may qualify for more intensive levels of support. Students who have difficulty following school rules and routines may be appropriate candidates for our Check-in, Check-out program (CICO). This program provides positive daily contact with an individual staff member and monitoring of behavior throughout the day to increase student performance.
Additionally, students may qualify for Social/Academic Instruction Groups (SAIG). These 6-week long groups provide students with more direct instruction and practice of expected behaviors, along with behavioral monitoring throughout the day. Student may also receive this intervention based on our Universal Screening data outcomes.
Behavior planning is another component of our Tier 2 system. Some students may need specialized interventions in the school environment to address specific issues and increase compliance. This may include assessment measures and observations of the student to determine the correct interventions.
Tier 3
Students requiring more intensive levels of support may qualify for Tier 3 services. These services are usually provided as part of a team process that includes staff members, the parents, and the child and are aimed at addressing issues not only at school, but at home and in the community as well. Examples of such services would include the Problem Solving Team, evaluation for individual educational services, section 504 referral, screening and assessment for functional, adaptive, social, and behavioral issues.
Some students may qualify for weekly group interventions as part of their IEP or 504 plan. These students have specific goals linked to SEL standards and are reviewed annually for growth.
